MST Celebrates 50 Years of Providing Safe, Dependable, Friendly Service
Monterey-Salinas Transit (MST) is celebrating its golden anniversary of providing bus service to our community.
In September 1973, Monterey Peninsula Transit started service with six well-worn buses on four routes serving Monterey, Pacific Grove, Carmel-by-the-Sea, and Seaside. Over the next few years, service was expanded to include Carmel Valley and the City of Salinas. In 1981, the City of Salinas joined the joint powers agency creating Monterey-Salinas Transit Joint Powers Agency. Then, in 2010, the cities of Gonzales, Soledad, Greenfield, King City, and Sand City joined the governance of Monterey-Salinas Transit with the newly created Monterey-Salinas Transit District which now operates 163 heavy duty, minibuses, and trolleys on 36 routes throughout the Central Coast.
To celebrate the anniversary with its customers, members of the MST staff and Board of Directors will be at the Salinas Transit Center and Monterey Transit Plaza from 7:00 AM – 9:00 AM on Friday, September 1st to share sweet treats and swag with passengers, and connect with our community. A commemorative luncheon event for MST employees, partners, and local elected officials will be held at the Monterey Bay Operations and Maintenance Facility.
