MONTEREY-SALINAS TRANSIT HONORS 12 OUTSTANDING VETERANS
WITH ANNUAL BUS PASSES
Monterey-Salinas Transit (MST) is honoring 12 outstanding veterans for their service by giving each of them a year’s worth of free bus passes. Deserving veterans were selected by the United Veterans Council of Monterey County for their volunteer service to the community and the passes were handed out to the individuals by MST Board Chair, Tony Barrera at the 25th Annual Veteran of the Year Awards on Saturday, November 5.
“On behalf of Monterey-Salinas Transit I was proud to be able to honor these amazing men and women for their service to our country and Monterey County with a year’s worth of free transportation,” MST board chair Tony Barrera said.
The free passes were provided by Measure Q, a 1/8-cent sales tax approved by voters in November 2014 to benefit transportation for seniors, veterans, and people with disabilities. Information collected from the recipients on how the passes are used will benefit MST’s planning efforts to better serve veterans moving forward. Measure Q also funds discount fares (half-price) to veterans.
