Measure Q
Background
On November 4, 2014, the voters of Monterey County approved the first-ever countywide sales tax measure for public transit. Beginning in July 2015, the Monterey-Salinas Transit (MST) Local Transit Funding for Senior Citizens, Veterans and People with Disabilities sales tax, otherwise known as Measure Q, will raise approximately $7 million per year. The sales tax will expire after 15 years unless renewed by the voters.
The money is to be used only for services and equipment that support transportation programs for veterans, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities. An oversight committee will review and report on the revenue and expenditure of funds from the tax.
