MONTEREY-SALINAS TRANSIT OFFERS REAL-TIME BUS ARRIVAL INFORMATION

“When is my bus going to arrive?” is now a question that can be answered precisely from the convenience of your smartphone, tablet, or computer as Monterey-Salinas Transit (MST) has unveiled RealTime bus arrival information.

MST RealTime will take the guesswork out of waiting for your bus through enhanced global positioning system devices installed on MST’s entire fixed-route fleet that triangulate bus locations in real time. That means knowing if your bus is on time before you leave home, work, or school, having the ability to check for updates on delays while you’re out and about, and no more looking into the distance and guessing if your bus is still on schedule.

There are few things as frustrating as having to guess when your bus is going to show up at your stop.  With MST RealTime, bus arrival times are right in your hand. Riders can download the Google Maps app or visit maps.google.com. For trips in progress, “on time” or specific to-the-minute delays will be listed directly next to the scheduled trip times.

RealTime is the most recent MST customer communications innovation which provides riders with the information they need, when they need it.  Currently, customers at more than 60 bus stops are now benefitting from next bus arrival information in the form of digital signs.  By early 2017, MST plans to nearly double the number of locations with digital signs throughout its 280-square mile service area.

MST maintains a stellar on-time performance record that exceeds 90% of trips arriving within five minutes of their scheduled time. Having to-the-minute information of exactly when a bus will arrive gives the rider more confidence that they will arrive at their destination on-time and improve their overall experience using public transit.

“We’re taking the guesswork out of waiting for the bus and we believe these technology investments will be especially useful to our customers when there are traffic delays due to road construction or other events outside of our control,” says MST General Manager/CEO, Carl Sedoryk.
