Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed legislation today creating Monterey-Salinas Transit (MST) as a transit district effective July 1, 2010. AB 644, authored by Assemblywoman Anna Caballero, allows all cities within the county and the County of Monterey to hold a voting membership on the MST Board, and provides the newly formed district with new opportunities to raise revenue to support its public transportation and mobility management programs.

“The creation of this district is the next logical step for Monterey-Salinas Transit in its role as a regional public transit operator. We thank Assemblywoman Caballero and her staff for shepherding this bill through the legislative process, and we look forward to working together with our new district members which will now include the cities of Sand City, Gonzales, Soledad, Greenfield, and King City.” said MST General Manager Carl Sedoryk.
